Yes, there is something missing.

Kinja'd!!!

An MR successor for the S2000.

In fact, Takanobu Ito should announce the development of such a car, just before he steps down, later this year.

Kinja'd!!!

He worked on the original NSX as an engineer. He approved the new NSX as a CEO.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Announcing such a car, would engrave "MR man" on Ito's legacy.

I have no problem whatsoever with Honda building the MR2 that Toyota refuses to.

I4 or V6... don't care if it is steel-bodied, as long as it isn't needlessly heavy beyond it's size.

The only thing is that there seems to be an industry-wide reticence to build a 2-seat affordable sports car, aside from Miata.

100hp/liter, 3000lbs or less, and 30-35K to start... sounds great to me.

The S660 based, S1000 will be pretty close to your description(and to the original MR2).

Have you seen this render?

Looks great to me, minus the oversized wheels. They could lose a couple inches.

I prefer the lower inlets versus the high shoulder inlets of the NSX. Also, i would expect the mirrors to go door mounted.
